Men's Golf Signs Two High School Recruits for Next Season
Nov. 18, 2011
MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine men's golf coach John Geiberger announced today the signing of two high school recruits - Hager Collins of Kentucky and Cody McManus of Arizona - to national letters-of-intent.
"We're excited to have these two young men join our program," Geiberger said. "Cody has a tremendous work ethic, one that will help make him a great player here. Hager is just starting to come into his own as an impact player. I'm looking forward to gaining his leadership skills."
Collins, a senior at Lexington Christian Academy, was part of the 2011 state championship team and placed third individually at the event. He was named the region's player of the year in 2011. At AJGA events, he has eight top-25 finishes and five top-15 results. He won the 2009 Kentucky Junior Amateur and took second at the 2010 Bubba Conlee National Junior.
Said Collins: "Pepperdine has a great reputation academically and athletically and is located in one of the most beautiful places in the country."
McManus, a senior at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, placed second at the Arizona state tournament as a junior and fifth as a senior, leading to all-state first team honors both years. He was the regional player of the year as a junior and city player of the year as a senior. In junior golf, he was the winner of the FCWT Saddlebrook Open, has six top-three finishes on the FCWT Tour, finished third and eighth at the last two FCWT national championships, is a two-time FCWT All-American and has multiple JGAA wins, including the 2011 Arizona Thunderbird Classic.
Said McManus: "I chose Pepperdine because of the golf tradition, its business school and, of course, the beach."
Next season, the Waves will have multiple players from Kentucky and Arizona with the arrival of Collins and McManus, as they'll join sophomore Parker Page (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS) and freshmen Neil Evans (Phoenix, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) and Caston Roberts (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert Christian HS).
Pepperdine returns to action in the spring season at the Arizona Intercollegiate on Jan. 30-31.
