Michael Putnam Named To Fuji Xerox U.S.A. Team To Compete Against Japan

Junior All-American Michael Putnam was one of eight male student-athletes selected to the 12-person United States Team named to compete in the 2004 Fuji Xerox U.S.A. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
The 12-member squad will consist of eight men's and four women's collegiate players. The event will be held July 13-16 at Taiheiyou Club Ichihara Course in Chiba, Japan.
Putnam, who was an honorable mention PING All-American selection as a sophomore, currently leads the Pepperdine with a 71.17 stroke average in 40 rounds. He has 11 Top 20 finishes and claimed individual medalist honors at The Club Glove Intercollegiate in October.
In addition to his selection to the United States Team, Putnam was named to the 2004 Ben Hogan Watch List, which recognizes the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III or NAIA golfer and takes into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the last 12 months.
The United States team consists of Putnam, Trent Erb of Oglethorpe, Kentucky's John Holmes, J.J. Jakovac of Chico State, Colorado State's Nolan Martin, Indiana's Jeff Overton, Minnesota's Justin Smith and Peter Tomasulo of California.
The women's team consists of Kailin Downs of New Mexico, Duke's Anna Grzebien, UCLA's Charlotte Mayorkas and Brooke Tull of TCU.
Team USA leads all-time U.S.A. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship series, 21-7, and has won eight-straight competitions.
