Pepperdine Finishes in Fifth Place at WCC Championships

Loyola Marymount ended Pepperdine's impressive run of seven consecutive West Coast Conference (WCC) men's golf championships on Tuesday as it won its first-ever conference title with a five-shot victory over San Francisco at the par-72, 6,826-yard Saddle Creek Golf Course in Copperopolis, California.

The Waves finished a disappointing fifth with a 54-hole score of 899 after winning 12 of the previous 14 WCC Championships. The fifth-place showing was the lowest for Pepperdine since it finished fifth in 1985.

Loyola Marymount won the tournament with a total of 872 while San Francisco finished second with a score of 877. Santa Clara (886) was third followed by Saint Mary's (892), Pepperdine, Portland (907), San Diego (922) and Gonzaga (928).

Sophomore Michael Baird was the top individual for the Waves, placing 12th with an 8-over par score of 224.

Senior Alex Coe, who tied teammate J.J. Wood for 16th, was named to the all-conference team for the second in a row.

Loyola Marymount's Brian Locke, who claimed individual medalist honors with a 6-under 210, was named the WCC's Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. LMU's Alex Galvan and Santa Clara's Rob Miller were named Co-Coaches of the Year.
