TUCSON, Ariz. Â The Pepperdine men’s golf team finished the first day of competition at the National Invitational Tournament in sixth place after ending the first round +3.
The Waves shot a total of 291 to put them 16 shots behind leaders TCU, who ended the first day -13.
Andrew Putnam (University Place, Wash./Life Christian Academy) led the Waves on Sunday, shooting a one-under 71 to sit in a tie for 11th place. Carl Smith (Laguna Beach, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) finished one shot behind, shooting an even-par 72 to end the first day tied for 17th, Andrew Widmar (El Paso, Texas/Cathedral HS) is tied for 27th after shooting a one-over 71, Jesse Barnsley (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) carded a 75 and sits in a tie for 45th, and Eric Shriver (Cary, N.C./Arkansas/Green Hope HS) is in 79th place after shooting an 84.
The second round of the National Invitational Tournament continues tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
