Wedel Leads Men's Golf at First Round of Warrior Wave Intercollegiate

Frederick Wedel turned in the best round of the fall season for the Pepperdine men's golf team, firing a 3-under 69 in the first round of the Warrior Wave Princeville Intercollegiate on Monday.
The tournament is being co-hosted by Pepperdine and Hawai'i at the par-72 Makai Golf Club at the St. Regis Princeville Resort. The Waves shot an opening round 3-over 291 (matching a season best) and are tied for sixth place along with UC Santa Barbara. The second and third rounds are on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands), a freshman playing in his second college tournament, posted four birdies against just one bogey. The 69 puts him into a tie for fourth place, just one stroke behind the leaders. He was 2-under at the turn and after a bogey on the 13th, he birdied the 14th and the 18th holes.
Senior Johnny Mac Arthur (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) is tied for 24th place at 73, junior Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Univ. of Redlands) is tied for 32nd place at 74, junior Parker Page (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS) is tied for 38th place at 75 and sophomore Kevin DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) is in 78th at 83.
Sanders had three birdies during his round and Mac Arthur and Page each recorded two.
