Men's Golf Begins Play at Cal's MacKenzie Invitational

SONOMA, Calif. - Junior Kevin DeHuff tied his career-best round to highlight the Pepperdine men's golf team's first day of action at California's Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Monday.
DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) had a 3-under 69 during the morning's first round, and he leads the Waves as he's tied for 27th place with an even-par 144 (69-75).
As a team, Pepperdine is in 14th place after shooting 291-297 for a total of 588 during the first day of competition at the par-72 Sonoma Golf Club. The third and final round is on Tuesday.
DeHuff had previously fired a score of 3-under at the Barona Collegiate Cup as a freshman and the North Ranch Intercollegiate as a sophomore. His first round today consisted of four birdies and just one bogey. He added two more birdies during the afternoon.
Senior Parker Page (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS) and sophomore Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) are both tied for 44th place with 3-over 147s. Page shot 74-73 and had four birdies in each round, including one stretch during the second round where he birdied the second, third and fourth holes consecutively. Wedel shot 73-74, and had an eagle on the par-5 16th hole during the first round.
Senior Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Redlands) and sophomore Nick Thomas (Westlake Village, Calif./Chaminade College Prep/California) are both tied for 67th place at 151. Sanders went 76-75 with a total of three birdies and Thomas shot 75-76 with a total of four birdies.
