Oct. 12, 2012
Johnny Mac Arthur, Parker Page and Kevin DeHuff each shot 1-over 73s to lead the Pepperdine men's golf team during the first round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Friday.
The Waves shot a 295 as a team and are in 12th place. Single rounds will be contested on Saturday and Sunday at the par-72 Blackthorn Club at the Ridges.
DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS), a sophomore, had a very good round going for a while. He had three consecutive birdies on the fourth, fifth and sixth holes to go 3-under. He was still 3-under after another birdie on the 10th hole and was 2-under after his fifth and final birdie of the day on the 14th. But a bogey on the 16th and a double-bogey on the 18th dropped him back to a tie for 39th place along with Mac Arthur (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) and Page (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS).
Mac Arthur, a senior, had three birdies, including one on the 18th. Page, a junior, had three bogeys on the front nine and two birdies on the back nine.
Junior Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Univ. of Redlands) and freshman Cody McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) are tied for 60th place after opening-round 76s. McManus' day was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole.
