BREMERTON, Wash. - The Pepperdine men's golf team saw its season come to a close on Wednesday as the Waves finished in a tie for fifth place at the West Coast Conference Championships.

Pepperdine opened the day just five shots out of first place, and despite a good start to the third round, the Waves couldn't maintain a spot near the top of the leaderboard. They finished with a total of 884 (290-292-302) at the par-72 Gold Mountain Golf Club, tied with Pacific and 10 strokes behind the winner, Brigham Young.

It's still possible that Pepperdine individuals could be chosen to take part in NCAA postseason play. NCAA Regional selections will be announced on May 5, and regionals will be held May 15-17.

Sophomore Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) had the team's best finish, a tie for 13th place. He shot a 4-over 220 (72-71-77) and earned All-WCC honorable mention notice.

Senior Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Redlands) improved by four strokes for the second straight round to jump into a tie for 19th place with a 6-over 222 (78-74-70). His 2-under 70 on Wednesday matched the best round of the day. He had three birdies and just one bogey during the third round.

Junior Kevin DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) tied for 21st place at 223 (70-72-81), sophomore David Pelekoudas (Irvine, Calif./University HS/Orange Coast CC) tied for 28th at 227 (72-75-80) and sophomore Nick Thomas (Westlake Village, Calif./Chaminade College Prep/California) tied for 38th at 231 (76-80-75).

Pepperdine has won 17 WCC titles, more than any other school.

The Waves picked up another point in the Wells Fargo PCH Cup, a season-long series between rivals Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. The Waves finished ahead of the Lions (who came in ninth place) by 14 strokes.
