Men's Golf Opens WCC Championships Tied for Third

Parker Page and Cody McManus shot 1-over 73s to lead the Pepperdine men's golf team during the first round of the West Coast Conference Championships on Monday. The Waves are tied for third place as a team.
The Waves shot a 9-over 297 at the par-72 Gold Mountain Golf Club and are tied with San Francisco. Saint Mary's had an even-par 288 and Brigham Young is three strokes back at 291. The Waves, Gaels and Cougars will be paired together on Tuesday and will tee off the #1 hole beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Page (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS), a junior, and McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS), a freshman, are tied for ninth place with two other golfers. Page's round began with nine straight pars on the back nine (all five Waves teed off on #10). Then he had two birdies and three bogeys on the front nine. McManus finished strong after being +4 at the turn. He had three birdies in his final eight holes.
Sophomore Kevin DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) is tied for 19th place at 75, freshman Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) is tied for 21st at 76 and junior Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Redlands) is tied for 27th at 77.
DeHuff had a team-high four birdies, three of which came in his final six holes. Sanders and Wedel had two apiece.
