Anderson's Career-Best Performance Leads Waves at Barona Collegiate Cup
March 23, 2012
LAKESIDE, Calif. - Senior Josh Anderson tied the seventh-best 54-hole score in Pepperdine men's golf history on Friday, as his score of 11-under was good for a tie for second place at the Barona Collegiate Cup. As a team, the Waves finished in 10th. Anderson (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) went below par during all three rounds at the par-72 Barona Creek Golf Club, shooting 69-70-66 for a total of 205. He had a total of 15 birdies and one eagle during the two days of play. The 11-under bettered his previous personal-best score by one stroke. Anderson shot 10-under in winning the 2010 Husky Invitational. His showing matched his best finish of the season (he also tied for second at the Husky Invitational in the fall), and it was his fifth top-five finish, his sixth top-10 result and his eighth top-20 placing in nine events. The 6-under that Anderson posted in the final round matched his career-best 18-hole score at Pepperdine. He had six birdies and zero miscues. It wasn't quite enough to catch up to the winner, however. J.J. Spaun of San Diego State finished three strokes ahead of Anderson and four others at 202 after shooting 67-67-68. The Barona Collegiate Cup utilized a play-six, count-five format. The Waves finished with a 12-over 1,092 (360-372-360). Eight of the nine teams that finished ahead of Pepperdine were ranked among Golfstat's top 41 teams. The final portion of the second round was played on Friday after it was halted due to darkness on Thursday night. Freshman Kevin DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Rancho Santa Margarita HS) had a season-best finish, tying for 27th place with a 1-under 215 (72-74-69). The 3-under 69 was his best of the season and was the first time he went below par. He had five birdies and two bogeys in his final round. Also, junior Johnny Mac Arthur (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) tied for 41st place at 219 (72-76-71), sophomore Parker Page (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS) tied for 74th place at 227 (74-75-78), freshman Caston Roberts (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert Christian HS) tied for 79th at 229 (73-77-79) and sophomore Alex Forss (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak HS) also tied for 79th at 229 (76-77-76).
