DeHuff Leads Waves at First Round of ASU Thunderbird Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Kevin DeHuff of the Pepperdine men's golf team fired a 4-under 67 to move into a tie for third place after Friday's first round of the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational.
As a team, the Waves shot a 4-over 288 at the par-71 Karsten Golf Course, but that was only good enough to start in 10th place. The second and third rounds are Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) is coming off a career-best tie for 11th place at the San Diego Classic. The 4-under today was a new career best for DeHuff. He had a total of six birdies, including on all three of the par-5s. His front nine consisted of one birdie and eight pars, and he had five birdies and two bogeys on the back nine.
Senior Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Redlands) also had a good day, as his 1-under 70 moved him into a tie for 12th place. He had four birdies during his round.
For the rest of the Waves' lineup, sophomore Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) is tied for 53rd after a 77, freshman Robin Kang (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./South Torrance HS) is tied for 67th after a 77 and sophomore Nick Thomas (Westlake Village, Calif./Chaminade College Prep/California) is tied for 73rd after a 78.
