DeHuff Posts Win in Men's Golf Dual vs. #9 TCU
March 9, 2013
LOS ANGELES - Kevin DeHuff posted a victory as the Pepperdine men's golf team played a rare dual match but the Waves lost to ninth-ranked TCU, 4-1, on Saturday at Rancho Park Golf Course.
Both the Waves and the Horned Frogs are taking part in the San Diego Classic, which begins on Monday. Both had an open date on their schedule and arranged to play the dual before heading south.
A Waves sent a young squad to face TCU, with one junior, one sophomore, one redshirt freshman and two true freshmen. The Horned Frogs, meanwhile, have four golfers ranked in the nation's top 80, including Julien Brun at #4.
DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS), a sophomore, had to go extra holes with his opponent. Neither went more than 1-up over the course of 18 holes, and DeHuff won it on the 19th when he recorded a par and TCU's Daniel Jennevret bogeyed.
Full results are as follows:
1) Julien Brun (TCU) d. Jeremy Sanders (Pepp), 2&1
"TCU is a really good team, and this was a great experience for us," Pepperdine assistant coach Carl Smith said. "They've got a player ranked fourth in the country and for Jeremy to go up against him and put a good fight, that's a great experience at the end of the day. Kevin played very solid golf. More than anything, we get to take away from it what a really good team looks like. Obviously we are striving to contend with programs like this. There was a definitely a lighter vibe to it, but our guys were competing. They're competitors and they don't want to lose."
The San Diego Classic will be held at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif., on Monday and Tuesday (March 11-12).
