WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - The Pepperdine-hosted North Ranch Intercollegiate finished its first 36 holes on Monday with the San Diego State men's golf team taking a five-stroke lead over San Diego. Two Aztecs are tied atop the individual leaderboard.

The third and final round will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the par-70 North Ranch Country Club.

The host Waves are in fourth place with a total of 597 (289-308). San Diego State has a 13-over 573 (281-292), ahead of San Diego's 578 (284-294) and New Mexico's 584 (289-295).

San Diego State's Matt Hoffenberg and Alex Kang both shot 1-under 139s to take a share of the individual lead. They lead Pepperdine senior Josh Anderson (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) and San Diego's Leon Knoll by two strokes.

Anderson fired a 1-over 141 (69-72). He and Kang had a total of eight birdies on the day, best in the tournament.

Also for the Waves, junior Johnny Mac Arthur (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) is tied for 16th place at 148 (71-77), sophomore Parker Page (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS) is tied for 34th at 154 (73-81), freshman Caston Roberts (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert Christian HS) is tied for 44th at 156 (78-78) and freshman Kevin DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) is tied for 49th at 158 (76-82).

Competing as individuals, Pepperdine sophomore Andreas Adler (Parkview, Hong Kong/Hills International College) and freshman Neil Evans (Phoenix, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) are tied for 71st place at 167.

UC Santa Barbara's Russell Boring recorded an eagle in each round, giving him two of the day's six.

The day was overacast, cold and windy, though the only significant rainfall came briefly in the afternoon. On average, scores were much lower in the morning (75.96) than the afternoon (77.54).

This was USC's tournament from 1978-2011, though host duties have been handed off to Pepperdine this year so that the Trojans may focus on putting on the 2012 NCAA Championships.
