Men's Golf Has Huge Second-Round Improvement at the Prestige

MALIBU, Calif. - Jeremy Sanders and Kevin DeHuff led the Pepperdine men's golf team to one of its best rounds of the season, a 5-under 279 during the second round of The Prestige at PGA West on Tuesday.
It was a complete turnaround from Monday, when the Waves shot 306 at the par-71 Greg Norman Course in La Quinta, Calif. Still, Pepperdine sits in 12th place with a total of 585 (306-279). The 279 was the second-best round of the day, and the third-best among all teams over the two days thus far.
The tournament, which includes a very strong field featuring eight of Golfstat's top 50 teams, has its third and final round is on Wednesday.
Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Redlands) birdied three of his final five holes to finish with a 4-under 67, while DeHuff had four birdies on a flawless back nine to record a 3-under 68. The 4-under tied a career best for Sanders, as did the 3-under for DeHuff.
That moved Sanders 28 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 19th place with an even-par 142 (75-67). The senior had a total of six birdies on the day. DeHuff, a junior, is now tied for 41st place at 146 (78-68).
They weren't the only two Waves to show improvement on day two. Sophomore David Pelekoudas (Irvine, Calif./University HS/Orange Coast CC), who is making his Pepperdine debut, had four birdies en route to an even-par 71. He's tied for 45th place at 147 (76-71). Sophomore Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) is tied for 54th at 150 (77-73).
Playing as an individual, freshman Ian Mankoff (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest HS) is tied for 69th at 160 (79-81), and sophomore Nick Thomas (Westlake Village, Calif./Chaminade College Prep/California) is 71st at 164 (79-85).
Meanwhile, over in the City of Industry, sophomore Cameron Davison (Duncan, B.C., Canada/Duncan Christian HS) finished up play at the Folino Invitational, being held at par-72 Industry Hills Golf Club. As an individual, he took 49th place with a 244 (79-85-80).
Freshman Robin Kang (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./South Torrance HS) shot a 72 in the first round on Monday morning, but suffered a wrist injury and withdrew during the second round of the tournament.
