Late Run Lifts Cal State Fullerton to 76-66 Win Over Pepperdine

Fullerton, Calif. - Junior guard Bobby Brown scored eight consecutive points during a two-minute span late in the second half to rally Cal State Fullerton to a 76-66 victory over Pepperdine Wednesday night at Titan Gym. Brown finished with 22 points.
The loss dropped the Waves to 0-2 while the Titans improved to 2-0 on the young season.
Turnovers told the story as Cal State Fullerton took advantage of Pepperdine miscues late in the game, scoring five straight points off two consecutive turnovers to build a 64-60 lead with 4:12 remaining and proceeded to pull away.
Cal State Fullerton out-scored Pepperdine 17-6 over the final 4:58 to break open a close game.
With the Waves leading 60-59, Brown hit a jumper following a turnover by Derick Grubb to give the Titans a 61-60 lead. Senior forward Tashaan Forehan-Kelly turned the ball over the next time down the court and Brown followed with a three-point basket to give Cal State Fullerton a 64-60 lead.
The Titans, who were led by Jamal Brown's career-high 27 points, scored 23 points off 20 Pepperdine turnovers and finished with a 45-28 advantage in rebounding.
Freshman point guard Michael Gerrity led Pepperdine with 19 points and six assists while Forehan-Kelly scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed a personal-best six rebounds.
Freshman forward Chris Oakes came off the bench to record a game-high 11 rebounds and added seven points.
The game was close throughout as neither team led by more than four points until Cal State Fullerton's late run. The score was tied 15 times and there were nine lead changes.
Pepperdine returns to action on Saturday when it hosts UC Irvine at Firestone Fieldhouse beginning at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net West 2.
