Pepperdine Men's Basketball Team Makes 2003-04 Debut Against EA Sports All-Stars On Tuesday

Nov. 3, 2003

After two weeks of practices and scrimmaging against itself, the Pepperdine men's basketball team will see its first live action of the season when it makes its 2003-04 debut on Tuesday against EA Sports All-Stars at Firestone Fieldhouse beginning at 7 p.m.

Tuesday's contest marks the first of two exhibitions for the Waves before they tip-off their regular season on Friday, November 21, against Dayton at Firestone Fieldhouse beginning at 8 p.m.

"Everyone is real excited to start the season," third-year head coach Paul Westphal said. "The players have been giving great effort in practice each day and we are anxious to play on Tuesday and get a gauge on how much progress we have made."

Westphal welcomes back four letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's team that posted a 15-13 record during an injury-plagued season. The backcourt tandem of sophomore Alex Acker and junior Terrance Johnson will anchor the Waves during the upcoming season.

Pepperdine was ranked No. 18 in the annual Mid-Major Poll released by earlier this month. Additionally, the Waves have been picked to finish second the West Coast Conference (WCC) behind defending regular-season champion Gonzaga.

The Waves will play their final exhibition contest on Thursday, November 13, when they entertain Ratiopharm, a team from Germany, at Firestone Fieldhouse beginning at 7 p.m.
