Kramer Earns Hoops Academic All-District Honor
Jan. 30, 2014
MALIBU, Calif. - Senior forward Malte Kramer of the Pepperdine men's basketball team has been named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District first team, the organization announced today.
Kramer (Frieberg, Germany/Cuesta CC), who holds a 4.0 grade-point average in economics, is now eligible for Academic All-American honors.
In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must have a 3.3 GPA or better, have at least sophomore standing and appear in a minimum of 50 percent of a team's games.
Kramer was one of four West Coast Conference student-athletes to make the six-member District 8 first team. He was joined by Johnny Dee of San Diego, Beau Levesque of Saint Mary's and Thomas van der Mars of Portland, as well as Holton Hunsaker of Utah Valley and Brandon Taylor of Utah.
Kramer has been an important reserve and occasional starter for the Waves in 2013-14. He's appeared in 20 games, starting eight, and is averaging 4.3 points and 1.6 rebounds. He's made 41% of his three-pointers (19-for-46) on the season. Kramer scored a career-high 14 points against Indiana State at the Great Alaska Shootout in November.
In 2012-13, his first season with the Waves, Kramer earned NABC Honors Court and WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll "gold" honors.
Before transferring to Pepperdine, Kramer was the state of California's junior college scholar-athlete of the year in 2011-12 while at Cuesta College. He also held a 4.0 GPA at Cuesta and was an all-state first team selection in basketball.
Kramer has helped the Waves (12-10 overall, 5-5 WCC) to the verge of their best season in nearly a decade. One more win will give Pepperdine its most victories, both overall and in conference, since 2004-05.
Kramer is the second Wave to earn Academic All-District honors in three years, following Taylor Darby in 2012.
The Waves next host rival Loyola Marymount in a Wells Fargo PCH Cup game on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Firestone Fieldhouse. The game will be televised by Time Warner Cable SportsNet and an audio-only broadcast will be hosted by Al Epstein via WaveCasts at PepperdineSports.com.
