Sever and Vincej Rack Up Prestigious American Baseball Coaches Association Postseason Honors

MALIBU, Calif. - Junior second baseman Joe Sever earned American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Rawlings All-West Region and All-America honors, while junior shortstop Zach Vincej earned ABCA Rawlings All-West Region and ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove accolades on the heels of a stellar 2012 season where the Waves won the West Coast Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Stanford Regional final.
Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) was named an ABCA Rawlings All-West Region first team selection and an ABCA Rawlings All-American second teamer. The junior finished the 2012 season as the West Coast Conference Player of the Year after hitting .417 in conference play. Overall on the year he batted .366 and collected 53 RBI. He finished among the conference leaders in multiple categories, including conference batting average (.417), hits (40) and doubles (10). He notched a pair of home runs and 10 doubles- good for a .583 slugging percentage. Despite frequently being pitched around in key situations, he drove in 23 runs and scored 20 as the Waves won the WCC title. Sever was also named to the WCC All-Conference team, and was a second team All-American according to Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball.
The Waves' slick-fielding shortstop Vincej (Saugus, Calif./Saugus HS) was named a second team ABCA Rawlings All-West Region selection and was also one of nine players selected as prestigious ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winners. The junior was deemed the top-fielding shortstop, as he finished the season with only four errors and a fielding percentage of .986. Vincej also batted .339 through 59 games, tallying 23 RBI, a conference-leading 18 doubles and two home runs from his leadoff position. He also earned All-WCC honors for the second time in his career. Vincej is a top three finalist for the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Brooks Wallace Award, given to the nation's top collegiate shortstop. The winner of the award will be announced on Saturday, June 30.
