MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine junior second baseman Joe Sever was named a second team All-American by Perfect Game on Monday afternoon. The honor comes on the heels of a stellar season for Sever, who was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year after batting .417 in conference play. This is the second All-America honor of the year for Sever, who was named a third team Collegiate Baseball All-American selection earlier this month.

Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) was the focal point of the Waves batting order in 2012, hitting in the three slot every game this season. He finished the year with a .366 batting average and 53 RBI. He finished among the conference leaders in multiple categories, including leading the way with a .417 average in WCC play. Sever was also tops with 40 conference hits and 10 doubles. He notched a pair of home runs and 10 doubles--good for a .583 slugging percentage. Despite frequently being pitched around in key situations, he drove in 23 runs to lead the Waves and scored 20. Sever also contributed with the leather, finishing conference play flawless on defense as half of the top double play tandem in the conference.

Along with being named WCC Player of the Year, the two-time WCC Rawlings Player of the Week was also named to the All-Conference team for the third time in his career. The Perfect Game All-America selection is the first of his career. The junior was drafted in the 21st round of the MLB First Year Draft by the Cleveland Indians.

Sever was one of four WCC players earning Perfect Game All-American honors. San Diego sophomore third baseman Kris Bryant and Gonzaga utility Marco Gonzales were also on the second team, while San Francisco junior starter Kyle Zimmer was a third teamer.
