June 5, 2012
MALIBU, Calif. - Junior right handed pitcher Jon Moscot was picked in the fourth round, 142nd overall pick in the 2012 MLB First Year Draft on Tuesday by the Cincinnati Reds.
Moscot (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Cuesta College/Palisades Charter HS) represents the 144th time a Waves player has been drafted by a MLB team since the amateur draft was instituted in 1954. His selection in the fourth round is the highest a Wave player has been taken since 2008, when Chase d'Arnaud was taken in that round by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Waves 2012 ace went 7-5 with a 2.90 ERA and 95 strikeouts. He led the team and the West Coast Conference with six complete games. He also led the league with 115.0 innings pitched and his 95 strikeouts were tied for second-most in the league. He was named to the All-WCC team this season.
Moscot is only the third Wave to be picked by the Reds, with the previous two being right handed pitcher Jay Adams in 2001 (24th round) and catcher Dane Sardinha (2nd round) in 2000.
