Bruins Prevail Against UC Irvine in Game One of Malibu Regional, 3-2

MALIBU, Calif. - UCLA's Hector Ambriz allowed two unearned runs on four UC Irvine hits over nine innings and went two-for-two from the plate as the Bruins downed the Anteaters, 3-2, Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium in Malibu, Calif., in the first game of the Malibu Regional.
Blair Dunlap scored the winning run on a two-out double by Brandon Crawford in the bottom of the seventh. Dunlap, who was 2-4 on the day, led off the inning with a single to left and then stole second base as the next two batters struck out looking, setting up Crawford's at-bat.
Irvine (36-23, 0-1) scored both of its runs in the fifth off a bases-loaded, two-out fielding error by UCLA (33-23, 1-0) third baseman Jermaine Curtis.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Bruins' Ryan Babineau hit his sixth homerun of the season with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to even the game at 2-all.
UCI starter Justin Cassel went 7.1 innings, scattering 11 hits in the loss.
UCLA will play the winner of the Pepperdine-Missouri game at 3 p.m. (PDT) Saturday, while UCI will play in an elimination game at 11 a.m.
