Baseball: Scott Frazier Named WCC Pitcher of the Week
April 15, 2013
MALIBU, Calif. – Scott Frazier collected a big victory Friday night at San Diego and captured West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week honors in the process. Frazier tossed seven strong innings, allowing four runs (two earned) off six hits and struck out eight, helping the Waves to a 7-4 triumph in the series opener at Fowler Park.
With the victory, Frazier (Upland, Calif./Upland HS) improves his season record to 3-4 and owns a 55/23 strikeout to walk ratio in 62.0 innings. Along the way, the junior set the stage for Pepperdine’s first series victory at San Diego since the 2003 campaign.
Last year, Frazier eight earned runs in 5.1 innings against the Toreros in the final series of the 2012 regular season but turned in one his best performances of the season on USD’s home field. The righthander tossed 109 pitches, 60 for strikes.
Frazier retired eight consecutive hitters at one point and allowed just one extra base hit. The Upland, Calif. native allowed just three hits – all singles – to the top four hitters in the Torero lineup.
Frazier is the second Wave pitcher honored by the WCC in as many weeks. RHP Corey Miller (Laguna Nigel, Calif./Serra HS) earned the weekly award last week after tossing 10.0 scoreless innings with a career-high 10 strikeouts.
UP NEXT FOR THE WAVES: Pepperdine welcomes No. 4 Cal State Fullerton to Malibu for the second time Tuesday, April 16. First pitch against the Titans is set for 3:00 p.m. in a game featuring a live video broadcast via WaveCasts.
