Box Score

Oklahoma State rallied to score two late runs avoiding a sweep with a 3-2 victory over No. 23 Pepperdine Sunday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium. Cowboy designated hitter, Adam Carr drove the first pitch of the 10th inning over the left field wall to complete the comeback victory. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Waves as they drop to 12-10 on the year.

In what turned out to be a pitchers duel, the Waves offense mustered only six hits to support a superb performance by starter Adam Olbrychowski. Olbrychowski lasted 7.2 innings allowing two runs on five hits and four strikeouts.

Brett Hunter appeared in relief, picking up the loss after surrendering the Carr homerun. The late blast was the first run Hunter had allowed in his short Pepperdine career, ending his 17.0 scoreless innings streak. The loss dropped him to 2-1 on the season.

Despite trailing 2-1 since the third inning, Oklahoma State managed to pull even with a two out RBI single in the eighth by centerfielder Corey Brown. The extra inning homerun proved to be enough for Cowboy pitchers Matt Gardner and Jordy Mercer, who held the Waves to two runs on six hits while striking out nine. Mercer did not allow a hit over 3.0 innings of work to pick up the win in his first appearance on the mound this season.

Pepperdine had a pair of late opportunities, getting runners aboard in both the eighth and tenth innings. David Uribes was caught stealing for the second time to waste a leadoff walk in the eighth and, following a Justin Tellam walk, pinch runner Adrian Ortiz was stranded on first to end the game. Donald Brown led the Pepperdine offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and a double.

Pepperdine continues play at Eddy D. Field Stadium next weekend as they play host to Dartmouth for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 2 p.m.
