Baseball Fans to Receive Free Admission for Evansville Series
MALIBU, Calif. Â As an early season thank you gift to its loyal fans, the No. 10 Pepperdine Baseball team is offering free admission to all four of its games this weekend against the University of Evansville (Ind.) Purple Aces.
Game times are Thursday and Friday at 2 p.m. Saturday’s doubleheader begins at 10 a.m.
"The Pepperdine Athletics Department and its baseball team values the fans so much that we are continuously trying to find ways to show our appreciation," said Director of Marketing & Alumni Relations Heather Collart. "In an attempt to thank our current fans and hopefully attract new ones, we really hope that the community will take us up on this offer to come support the Waves during a family friendly weekend at Eddy D. Field Baseball Stadium."
Pepperdine (6-2) is in the midst of a great start that includes victories over local rivals USC and UCLA, plus weekend series wins over Cal State Northridge and UC Davis.
The Waves are close to batting .300 on offense and have blasted several dramatic home runs while scoring an average of 5.5 runs per game. The team has combined to rack up 10 or more hits over their past five games, many of them going for extra bases.
Pepperdine’s pitching has been phenomenal as well, led by an experienced starting rotation and bullpen that has posted a West Coast Conference-leading 2.71 earned-run average. The Waves’ staff has limited opposing hitters to a .198 batting average while compiling 66 strikeouts.
Evansville is off to a slow start at 2-4; however, the Purple Aces rebounded with an impressive 3-0 shutout of Cal State Northridge Tuesday afternoon.
The Waves, who are playing Evansville for the first time in their history this weekend, are 4-2 all-time vs. teams from the Missouri Valley Conference. Pepperdine is 1-0 against Illinois State and 3-2 vs. Wichita State.
