Waves Shut Out Alumni, 4-0, Swanner Given Scolinos Award

Malibu, Calif. - Pepperdine scored two runs in the first inning and two runs in the fourth inning, taking a 4-0 victory in the 2014 John Scolinos Alumni Game on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
Freshman Chandler Blanchard got the start for the Waves, allowing only one hit in 4innings and striking out 3 for the win. Jason Balades threw three perfect innings for the save.
Langlois and Brown each ended the day with two hits and two RBI. Freshman Jeremy Goldenetz also had two hits for the Waves. G. J. Raymundo had the only hit for the Alumni.
The Waves open up the 2014 season when it welcomes St. John's to Malibu for a three-game series beginning Friday, February 14.

Swanner played for the Waves from 2011-2013, emerging as one of the top closers in collegiate baseball before being drafted by the Atlanta Braves. Swanner amassed 14 saves in his final season at Pepperdine, the fourth best season total in program history, and had 22 overall for his career. He finished with a 2.85 ERA (1.50 in 2013), striking out 55 batters in 75.2 innings pitched and allowed just 14 hits and a .165 opponents' batting average his final season. Swanner was named All-WCC honorable mention and was a member of the 2013 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List as a senior.
Former major leaguer Gabe Kapler also highlighted the night as the Alumni Dinner's keynote speaker.
