Orange Evens Series With 5-3 Victory
Nov. 10, 2012
MALIBU, Calif. – After being down two games to zero, Team Orange forced Game 5 with a come-from-behind 5-3 victory on a windy morning at Eddy D. Field Stadium. Team Blue took an early lead in the top of the third on a two-out RBI single by senior Nate Johnson and two-run double by sophomore Bryan Langlois.
Team Orange answered back in the bottom of the frame scoring two of their own to cut the lead to 3-2. Freshman Hutton Moyer continued his hot hitting, tripling in sophomore Drew Hacker and later scored on a wild pitch.
Orange took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Hacker and Junior Ranny Lowe started the inning with singles. Moyer laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt that was thrown away to score Hacker and tie the game. Lowe scored on a wild pitch and Austin Davidson singled in Moyer to make it 5-3 Orange.
After a shaky start, junior Corey Miller settled down to go six innings for the victory. The right-hander struck out six and did not walk a hitter. Freshman Alan Norman, pitching in his fourth straight game, earned the save stranding the tying run on first to end the game.
Shortstop Cody Nulph led the way for the Blue offensively. The freshman collected three hits in the loss. Langlois and Connor Garelick each had two hits for the Blue.
The series concludes on Sunday with a decisive game five. Team Blue pitching coach, Scott Frazier (1-0) will oppose Orange’s Matt Maurer (0-1) at 1:00 p.m. at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
