Box Score

MALIBU, Calif. – Back-to-back two-out RBI singles by redshirt junior Miles Silverstein (Bell Canyon, Calif.) and freshman Bryan Langlois (Oak Park, Calif./Oak Park HS) combined with six innings of one-run ball by senior starter Keven Inman (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces HS) carried Blue to a 2-1 (7 inning) win over Orange Sunday during game two of Pepperdine’s annual fall intrasquad series.

Blue leads the five-game set 1-0-1 following Saturday’s 5-5 tie. Game three will take place Wednesday at 12:30 at Malibu’s Eddy D. Field Stadium. Admission is free.

Sophomore transfer and starter Jon Moscot (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter HS/Cuesta College) was tagged with the loss despite striking out five and allowing only three base runners before reaching the decisive sixth inning.

Moscot gave up a leadoff single to junior transfer Tony Cooper (San Carlos, Calif./Junipero Serra HS/Cañada College), who went on to reach second on a sacrifice and third on a fielder’s choice after Orange failed to turn a double play on catcher Nate Johnson’s (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo HS) ground ball to second.

Silverstein capitalized on his team’s second wind with a game-tying single to right that plated Cooper, and then Langlois followed with a shot back up the middle.

Inman gave up his lone run during a shaky first inning, in which four of the first six batters he faced reach base. Sophomore Joe Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) led off with a double and scored two batters later on Trent Diedrich’s (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS) RBI single to right.

Sophomore Sam Meyer (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS) slammed another extra-base hit for Orange, but Diedrich was held at third, and then after Inman struck out newcomer Zach Turner (San Carlos, Calif./Junipero Serra HS/Cañada College) for the second out, he escaped the jam with a ground ball to third.

Inman cruised through the next three innings, retiring the next nine batters he faced before surrendering a lead-off single in the fifth. He gave up another hit to start the sixth but neither runner would advance past second base.

Redshirt sophomore Ricky Villarreal (Edinburg, Texas/Edinburg HS) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save, inducing two groundouts and a pop up on a sacrifice bunt attempt.
