Blue Takes 2-0 Lead in Orange Blue World Series with 5-2 Victory

MALIBU, Calif. – Team Blue sent 13 batters to the plate in the third and rolled to a 5-2 victory Sunday in game two of the Blue Orange World Series at Eddy D. Field Stadium. Team Blue now owns a 2-0 lead in the best of five series with game three scheduled for Wednesday, November 7.
Seven straight batters reached base in the pivotal third with shortstop Cody Nulph and designated hitter Nathan Johnson collecting a RBI singles. Outfielder Bryan Langlois provided the big blow with a two-run double.
Team Orange scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to two runs, 4-2. Catcher/manager Kolten Yamaguchi led off with a double, advanced to third on an error and scored on a groundout. Freshman infielder Hutton Moyer drove in the second run with a double to the wall.
Right-hander Scott Frazier enjoyed a strong start for Blue, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with nine strikeouts. Team Orange threatened in the third, loading the bases, but Frazier struck out three to end the threat. Right-hander Mat Snider also pitched well in relief going 2.2 innings for the save.
Seven members of Team Blue collected at least one hit, while Nulph, Johnson and catcher/manager James Grandpre collected a pair.
Moyer led the way for Team Orange offensively with a 4-for-4 day with two doubles and a walk. Outfielder Aaron Brown chipped in with a pair of hits. Right-hander Michael Swanner pitched well in relief of left-handed starter Matt Maurer, going 2.1 scoreless innings allowing just one hit.
Team Orange looks to bounce back in game three, set for a 2:45 p.m. first pitch Wednesday at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
