McClelland's Effort Propels Blue to Game One Win in Blue Orange World Series

Malibu, Calif. - Team Blue seized Game One of the best of three Blue Orange World Series by a score of 9-2 Saturday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium. Freshman right-hander Jackson McClelland collected the win, scattering three hits in 5.2 shutout innings. Sophomore catcher Connor Garelick had the big blow with a bases clearing double off losing pitcher Alan Norman to break the scoreless tie in the fifth. Team Blue scored six more in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Garelick finished the game with two doubles in four trips to the plate. Blue Team manager James Grandpre also doubled and scored two runs. Freshman relievers Ivan Dilda and Evan Dunn pitched the final 3.1 innings to secure the win. Freshman Vincent Hoover collected a hit and recorded two outfield assists. Junior starter Corey Miller threw four shutout innings for the Orange in the loss. Aaron Brown and Sam Meyer each went 2-for-4 for Team Orange. Austin Davidson and Jake Acree drove in the only two runs in the eighth and ninth.
Game two starts tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Eddy D. Field Stadium. Junior left-hander Matt Maurer will look to even the series when he opposes junior right-hander Scott Frazier. Blue 9, Orange 2 (Malibu, Calif.)
