MALIBU, Calif. - Sophomore Nate Johnson's (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo HS) team-leading fourth home run of the year - a ninth-inning grand slam - accounted for all of Pepperdine's runs in its 7-4 loss to Stony Brook Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

Today's decision raised Stony Brook's record to 7-8 while the Waves fell to 6-14. The two clubs play again tomorrow and Sunday in Malibu at 1 p.m.

The Seawolves raced out to a 4-0 first-inning lead off Pepperdine starter Cole Cook (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter HS) with six consecutive hits to start the ball game - all of them singles.

SBU first baseman Robert Dyer plated the game's first two runs on a bases-loaded shot down the left-field line and later scored the fourth run on a fielder's choice.

The score remained 4-0 until the fifth when Dyer scored from second on Stephen Marino's two-out RBI single. Of the Seawolves 13 hits, Dyer's fifth-inning double was their lone extra-base knock.

Cook came within one out of delivering his second complete game of the year, but was pulled in favor of freshman reliever Brian McIlhenny (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Preparatory) after loading the bases. McIlhenny walked in one run and allowed another to score on a wild pitch before recording the inning's final out.

Cook tossed 138 pitches and matched a season high with nine strikeouts.

Pepperdine's offense was held in check by SBU starter Tyler Johnson through the first eight innings, in which he scattered three hits. But the Waves loaded the bases with one out in the ninth and Johnson delivered Pepperdine's first grand slam of the year straight over the center field fence.

Johnson gave way to reliever William Carmona who quietly retired the game's final two batters on seven pitches.

Johnson's four RBI tied a season and career high. He hit a pair of two-run home runs earlier this month in a 10-3 win over East Carolina.
