Waves Drop Regular Season Home Finale to Saint Mary's 10-3

MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine dropped a 10-3 decision to Saint Mary’s Sunday afternoon in the 2013 regular season home finale at Eddy D. Field Stadium. With the loss, the Waves (24-23, 10-11 WCC) suffer a rare home series loss to the Gaels (21-30, 11-10 WCC).
Pepperdine trailed 10-0 before Hutton Moyer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) got the Waves on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. It was the third homer of the season for Moyer. Brad Anderson (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) doubled for Pepperdine. The Waves scored two more in the ninth on an error and an RBI single from Austin Davidson (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS).
Aaron Brown (Chatsworth, Calif./Chatsworth HS) suffered the loss, snapping a string of five straight victories on Sunday. Brown (5-3) allowed eight runs off 10 hits and struck out two in 5.2 innings. Ryan Brockett (5-5) collected the win for the Gaels, going 6.0 innings, allowing one run off five hits and struck out five.
Saint Mary’s Brendan Kalfus was a one-man wrecking crew, finishing 2-for-5 with two two-run doubles. In the process he extended his WCC-record hitting streak to 33 games.
Pepperdine travels south to take on Long Beach State Tuesday, May 14 at Blair Field. First pitch against the Dirtbags is set for 6:00 p.m.
