SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Pepperdine struggled with timely hitting and shaky defense and dropped a 5-2 West Coast Conference decision to San Francisco Sunday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond. The Waves (23-20, 9-9 WCC) suffer a rare road sweep at the hands of the surging Dons (29-19, 14-7 WCC), who have now won five straight games.

Austin Davidson (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS) led the way for the Waves offensively with a 3-for-4 day, while Sam Meyer (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS) went 2-for-4 with an RBI double. The Waves managed seven hits, but committed four errors on a tough defensive day.

Pepperdine trailed early 2-0 and tied it with a two-run sixth as Davidson provided a run scoring single and scored on a Meyer double to right center. San Francisco wasted no time in answering, plating two in the home half of the sixth for a 4-2 lead.

USF added an insurance run in the eighth and finished the game with nine hits. Pepperdine did not lead the Dons in the series and suffers only its third sweep in San Francisco since 1971, but the second in three years.

Lefthander Aaron Brown (Chatsworth Calif./Chatsworth HS) saw a five-game winning streak come to an end. Brown (5-2) tossed 5.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) off eight hits and struck out six with a pair of walks.

Abe Bobb (4-5) got the win in relief for the Dons, tossing 1.1 hitless innings with three strikeouts.

Pepperdine opens its final homestand of the 2013 regular season Tuesday when it welcomes Long Beach State to Malibu Tuesday, May 7. First pitch against the 49ers is set for 3:00 p.m. at Eddy D. Field Stadium in a game featuring a live video stream via WaveCasts.
