SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Pepperdine got an outstanding start from All-American Aaron Brown and seized a 5-2 victory at San Diego Sunday afternoon at Fowler Park. The Waves (20-14, 8-4 WCC) earn their third league series win of the season at the expense of the Toreros (20-15, 6-6 WCC).

With the victory, Pepperdine takes its second consecutive series against San Diego and wins on the Toreros’ home park for the first time since 2003.

Brown retired nine straight in one stretch and threw 94 pitches. It was the fourth consecutive win in as many starts for the preseason All-American.

Ranny Lowe (Granada Hills, Calif./Notre Dame HS) led the Waves offensively with a sizzling 5-for-5 day with a double and a run. Brown helped his own cause with a 2-for-5 day at the plate with an RBI, while Chris Amezquita (La Mirada, Calif./UCLA) added a 2-for-5 day with an RBI, while Bryan Langlois (Oak Park, Calif./Oak Park HS) connected for his team-leading 15th double of the year.

Pepperdine used small ball to strike first in the third inning. Ranny Lowe (Granada Hills, Calif./Notre Dame HS) opened up the frame with a single to left, advanced to second on a wild pitch, to third on a sacrifice by Drew Hacker (Moorpark, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hutton Moyer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS). The Waves loaded the bases with two outs, but could not add to the lead.

San Diego tied it with a leadoff homer by Austin Green in the home half of the third.

Pepperdine plated two runs in the fourth. The Waves loaded the bases with no outs on three straight singles by Lowe, Brown and Amezquita. Hacker made it four straight single to drive in Lowe. Hutton Moyer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS)Moyer recorded his second sac fly of the game to center, making the score 3-1 Waves.

After back-to-back walks with two outs, Amezquita and Brown recorded consecutive RBI singles to build a 5-1 lead in the top of the seventh.

San Diego rallied in the ninth with two walks to lead off the inning against Brown and loaded them on a pinch hit single with no outs. The Waves turned a big double play as a run scored to make it 5-2. The Toreros would get no closer as Michael Swanner (Cardiff, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) got a fly out to secure the 20th victory of the season for Pepperdine.

Pepperdine returns home for a five-game homestand when it welcomes No. 3 Cal State Fullerton to Eddy D. Field Stadium for the second time this season Tuesday, April 16. First pitch against the Titans is set for 3:00 p.m. in a game featuring live streaming video via WaveCasts.
