MORAGA, Calif.- Pepperdine baseball was unable to build on an early 4-run lead and let one get away, falling 6-4 in game two of a West Coast Conference series at Saint Mary's Louis Guisto Field on Friday afternoon.

The Waves (18-13, 2-3 WCC) got the offense going early, pushing a pair of runs across against the Gaels (15-14, 2-6 WCC) in the top of the second. Aaron Brown (Chatsworth, Calif./Chatsworth HS) and Sam Meyer (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS) led off the inning with back-to-back singles and were advanced to second and third by a Floyd Given (Rohnert Park, Calif./ Sacramento City College) sac bunt. A sac fly from Matt Gelalich (La Verne, Calif./Bonita HS) and a single from Zach Vincej(Saugus, Calif./Saugus HS) put the Waves up 2-0.

The Waves built their lead to 4-0 in the visiting half of the fourth, as Austin Davidson (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS) singled home Given, who had reached on an error, and Joe Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) plated Kolten Yamaguchi(Kona, Hawai'i/Knoawaena HS), who had reached on his second walk of the day.

However, the Waves would go hitless the rest of the game, leaving the door open for the Gaels.

Starter Scott Frazier (Upand, Calif./Upland HS), cruised through the first three innings but ran into trouble in the middle innings, giving up single runs in the fourth and fifth. After tossing a 1-2-3 sixth and recording a pair of outs in the seventh, Frazier issued a two-out walk and was lifted for reliever Michael Swanner(Cardiff, Calif./La Costa Canyon, HS), who gave up a run-scoring double but got out of the inning after that, leaving the score 4-3 Waves after seven.

The Gaels would get to the Waves again in the eighth, though, striking the decisive blow with a three-run home run from Brenden Kalfus off of Swanner to give them the 6-4 lead--their first of the series.

The Waves threatened in the ninth, courtesy of a pair of walks but were unable push any runs across.

The teams meet for the third and final game of the series at 1 p.m. PT on Saturday in at Louis Guisto Field.
