FULLERTON, Calif. - An early 3-0 Pepperdine lead quickly dissolved into a six-run deficit as the 12th-ranked Cal State Fullerton Titans scored nine times in the fourth inning en route to a 13-3 win Tuesday night at Goodwin Field.

The loss dropped the Waves' season record back to .500 at 14-14 as they enter conference play this weekend at Portland, while the Titans improved to 21-8 (3-0 Big West).

Pepperdine scored twice in the second and once in the fourth to build its 3-0 advantage. Joe Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) doubled with one out in the second inning and scored the game's first run on Sam Meyer's (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS) high chopper over the head of third baseman Blake Barber.

Miles Silverstein (Bell Canyon, Calif./Calabasas HS) followed with a line drive off Barber's glove that left fielder Carlos Lopez couldn't get a handle on either, and it was on this mishandling that Meyer scored the Waves' second run.

Sever again reached home in the fourth after Silverstein beat the throw at first base on a potential inning-ending double play.

Overall, the Waves ripped seven hits through the first four innings off starter Colin O'Connell, but would only collect three more the rest of the game off four different Titan relievers. David Hurlbut, who followed O'Connell to the mound to start the fifth, scored the victory in improving to 2-0 on the year.

After tossing 3.0 shutout innings to begin the game, Pepperdine starter Alex Najera (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Canyon HS) lost his command at the start of the fourth with back-to-back walks issued to Fullerton No. 3 and 4 batters Nick Ramirez and Tyler Pill. Then one out later, Lopez tied the game with his first home run of the season that hit off the billboard advertisements in right field.

Lopez again would bring home Ramirez and Pill later in the fourth on a single to left, giving him five RBI for the inning and game. Also in the inning, Richy Pedroza clubbed a bases-loaded triple off reliever Jared Lee (Fresno, Calif./Clovis West) with two outs that gave the Titans their first lead at 6-3.

Three straight singles, a throwing error and wild pitch in the fifth inning made it 11-3, and then it was 13-3 after the sixth where the Titans capitalized on a leadoff single followed by three walks and a hit batsman.

Cody Dickerson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods HS) was the lone Pepperdine pitcher not to allow any runs, as he pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth inning with one strikeout. Brian Humphries (El Cajon, Calif./Granite Hills HS) also had a solid game defensively in center field, making five catches, several of which were on or near the warning track.
