Waves Fall 4-0 to No. 8 Texas A&M in Pitchers' Duel
March 23, 2012
MALIBU, Calif. - Despite a strong start from ace Jon Moscot, the Pepperdine baseball team was unable to manufacture any offense and fell 4-0 to No. 8 Texas A&M on Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
The Aggies' (17-6) starter, Michael Wacha kept the Waves' bats quiet all day, taking a perfect game into the eighth inning en route to his first complete game and fourth win of the season.
Waves' (16-7) starter Moscot (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Cuesta College) went pitch-for-pitch with Wacha, working a no-hitter of his own through five innings. However, the Aggies were able to get to the junior in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs on four hits to build a lead they would not relinquish. Moscot finished with six strikeouts and four runs on five hits through seven plus.
The Waves' offense was unable to get to the Aggies through the first seven innings, but finally manufactured a baserunner in the eighth, when left fielder Tony Cooper(San Carlos, Calif./Canada College) started off the inning with a strikeout but reached second on a throwing error by the catcher that erased Wacha's perfect game. Next batter, right fielder Aaron Brown (Chatsworth, Calif./Chatsworth HS) broke up the no-hitter with an infield single. With two on and no out, the Waves had their first threat of the day, but Wacha struck out the next two batters. Third baseman Austin Davidson(Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS) followed with a base hit through the left side to load the bases, but the Waves were unable to push anything across in the inning.
The Waves and Aggies will be back in action at Eddy D. Field Stadium for a doubleheader on Saturday, to get ahead of the impending rainstorm headed to the Los Angeles area on Sunday. Game one is set for 11 a.m. PT, with game two following a half an hour after the conclusion of game one.
