MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine's starter Jon Moscot threw a complete game, allowing only two runs with nine strikeouts, but the Waves were unable to get their bats going on Friday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Kent State at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

Today's outing was the second-straight start that Moscot (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Cuesta College) has gone the distance and is the third complete game of his career. His nine strikeouts tie his season high, which he has hit twice already this year.

Through the first five innings neither team was able to plate a run. The Waves (13-5) left eight on base in the game, with five of those coming in the first four innings. The best scoring opportunities for the Waves came in the first, second and fourth innings, as the leadoff hitters in each inning reached base. In the first the Waves had runners on first and second, but were unable to push across a run. In the second the team had first and second with no outs, but again came up empty.

The story was the same for the Waves in the bottom of the fourth, as Sam Meyer (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS) singled to start the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Tony Cooper(San Carlos, Calif./Canada College), where he was left stranded.

Shortstop Zach Vincej(Saugus, Calif./Saugus HS) went 2-for-3 with one walk to lead the team. First baseman Meyer was 2-for-4.

The Golden Flashes' (8-6) starter, David Starn went seven innings, scattering six hits and allowing only one walk with five strikeouts. In the top of the sixth the Golden Flashes scored their first run and then followed in the top of the eighth with their second run, stringing together a few hits. Moscot would get out of the inning without any further damage, as he picked off the runner at first.

The Waves and Golden Flashes will get back out there tomorrow at 1 p.m. PT, where the Waves will try to even up the series.
