Pepperdine Bats Bop Brown 19-3

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Pepperdine baseball team ripped a season-high 22 hits, including home runs by Joe Sever and Nate Johnson, in a 19-3 dismantling of Brown University Saturday afternoon at LSU's Alex Box Stadium as part of a three-team, six-game tournament.

Sever's and Johnson's (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo HS) home runs were their first of the season.

The Waves scored nine runs in the second inning and put up several more crooked digits in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings. Pepperdine's 19 runs were its most since a 21-2 win last season against Saint Mary's.

Four players, including the entire bottom third of the Waves' lineup, each collected three hits and redshirt sophomore Miles Silverstein (Bell Canyon, Calif./Calabasas HS) led all players with four RBI and four runs from the No. 8 spot. His four runs tied a Pepperdine single-game record, which was last accomplished by Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) earlier this season vs. Oregon.

Pinch hitters Floyd Given (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate HS) and Mike Hole (Vancouver, B.C./St. George's School) also got into the act, going a combined 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

Fifth-year senior and starter Robert Dickmann (Woodland Hills, Calif./Notre Dame HS) improved to 2-1 on the year. Dickmann struck out four Bears over 6.2 innings pitched and gave up two earned runs on nine hits.

The Pepperdine bullpen of Ricky Villarreal (Edinburg, Texas/Edinburg HS), Brian McIlhenny (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Preparatory) and Brad Jesernig (Olympia, Wash./Capital HS) scattered three hits over the final 2.1 innings and struck out two.

The Waves complete their Spring Break road trip to the bayou later tonight with a 5 p.m. PT/7 p.m. CT game against No. 2 LSU.
