HONOLULU, Hawaii - After scoring three runs through the first three games of the series, the Pepperdine baseball team woke up the bats Saturday night, scoring seven runs on 13 hits for a 7-3 win over Hawaii in the series finale.

The visiting Waves scored six runs through the first five innings and got 7.2 solid innings out of starter Aaron Brown (Chatsworth, Calif./Chatsworth HS) to cruise to the victory.

The Waves jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs on four hits in the second inning. Singles by Brandon Caruso (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) and Manny Jefferson (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood HS) drove in the first two runs of the game, followed by an RBI groundout from Jack Ross (Gilroy, Calif./Palma HS) and then Caruso scored on a Hawaii error.

Brown helped his own cause in the third inning with a home run to left and Bryan Langlois (Oak Park, Calif./Oak Park HS) hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, giving the Waves a 6-0 lead.

Hawaii scored a pair in the sixth inning and could have had more if it wasn't for a highlight reel catch by Ross in left to end the frame. An RBI double in the eighth finished off the scoring for the Warriors.

Eric Karch (Fresno, Calif./Clovis West HS) came in to relieve Brown with two outs in the eighth inning, getting a groundout to strand a pair of Warrior runners. Karch would work a 1-2-3 ninth to finish the game off.

Brown scattered six hits on the mound, striking out nine batters and giving up three runs to move to 2-0 on the year. The junior also went 3-for-5 at the plate, driving in a run and scoring two more. Five Waves notched multiple hits on the day for Pepperdine.

Hawaii used five different pitchers in the game, with Eric Gleese taking the loss.

The win moves the Waves to 8-3 on the year and drops the Warriors to 6-6. The teams split this week's four-game series. Pepperdine heads home next week, hosting UNC-Wilmington for a non-conference game on Tuesday.
