MALIBU, Calif. - Despite outhitting the visiting Fresno State Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, the Waves fell behind early and dropped the second game of the weekend series by a score of 8-4 at Eddy D. Field Stadium. The Waves (5-2) recorded 10 hits but only generated four runs, as it hit into four double plays and stranded five other runners.

Waves' (5-2) starter Scott Frazier (Upland, Calif./Upland HS) took his first loss of the season, surrendering six runs (five earned) on four hits, two walks and two hit batters, in five innings of work. The visiting Bulldogs (4-3) made the most of their nine hits, with three of them for extra bases and a number of them driving in runs.

After the two-run first, Frazier seemed to settle in, recording a pair of 1-2-3 innings, but Fresno State pushed across another four runs in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead.

The Waves responded in the bottom half of the inning, though, as Tony Cooper (San Carlos, Calif./Canada College) hit a two-out single, and Matt Forgatch (San Marino, Calif./Denison University) followed it with a walk. Aaron Brown (Chatsworth Calif./Chatsworth HS) followed with a quality at bat, working the count full and driving a fastball over the center fielder's head for a two-run double to get the Waves on the board and put the score at 6-2.

The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 8-2, with two more across in the top half of the sixth with back-to-back RBI hits from second baseman Patrick Hutcheson and right fielder Jordan Luplow, who finished the day 3-5 with two doubles and five RBI.

Waves relievers Brian McIlhenny (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) and Steve Casey (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle HS) combined for 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Pepperdine broke through again in the eighth, as the top of the order manufactured a run on a single from Zach Vincej (Saugus, Calif./Saugus HS), a double from Joe Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) and a two-RBI single from Forgatch to put the score at 8-4, but that would be as close as the Waves got.

The Waves will try to get the series win against the Bulldogs on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
