COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Pepperdine mounted a late rally and seized a 5-3 victory at Texas A&M Friday night in front of 4,644 at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. The Waves (5-1) came alive offensively at just the right time and the pitching clamped down on the Aggies (4-2) from there.

Sam Meyer (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, while Johnson added a 2-for-4 day with an RBI. Johnson also erased a pair of Aggies attempting to steal second. Freshmen David Oppenheim (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island HS) and Hutton Moyer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) also collected a pair of hits.

Michael Swanner (Cardiff, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) earned the save after a scoreless ninth with a strikeout. Eric Karch (Clovis, Calif./Clovis West HS) tossed 1.1 innings and allowed a hit with a strikeout in a big relief outing for his second win of the year.

Neither starter featured in the decision, although both were effective in an excellent Friday night matchup. Scott Frazier (Upland, Calif./Upland HS) shook off some early trouble and tossed 6.2 innings, allowing three runs off seven hits with a season-high eight strikeouts. Kyle Martin finished with three runs off five hits and struck out six in 7.0 innings for the Aggies.

Texas A&M jumped on Frazier in the first, scoring three runs on three hits in a high stress inning. The big righthander settled down from there and retired six straight, starting in the second. Martin retired the first 13 Waves he faced.

Trailing 3-0, Pepperdine broke through in the sixth, rallying for a pair of runs. Oppenheim singled up the middle to lead off the frame and Moyer was hit by a pitch with one away to give the Waves first and second. Austin Davidson (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS) drove in Oppenheim on a single to left and Meyer plated Moyer on an RBI groundout.

Frazier retired the side in order in the sixth and Martin returned the favor in the top of the seventh.

Ranny Lowe (Granada Hills, Calif./Notre Dame HS) continued to swing a hot bat for the Waves and singled to lead off the eighth, chasing Martin. Moyer followed with an infield single. Davidson advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Meyer then slapped a two-run single to left. Johnson followed with an RBI single up the middle to make it 5-3 Waves.

Pepperdine threatened once again in the ninth, loading the bases with one out, but the Waves hit into an inning ending double play. Texas A&M also had two runners in scoring position with one out, but Swanner got a strikeout and a groundout to end it.

Both teams recorded 10 hits and Pepperdine's pitchers recorded 10 strikeouts and held the Aggies scoreless in the final eight innings.

Pepperdine takes on Texas A&M in game two of the series Saturday, Feb. 23. First pitch is set for 4:05 p.m. (PT) at Olsen Park at Blue Bell Park.
