MALIBU, Calif.- The Pepperdine Waves baseball team earned its first win of the season in a big way Saturday afternoon, as it defeated No. 14 Oklahoma 10-0 at Eddy D. Field Stadium. With runs spread through five innings, the Waves threatened with runners in scoring position in all nine.

The Waves (1-1) were led by a three-for-five day with three RBI from freshman Aaron Brown behind an excellent outing by sophomore righty Scott Frazier, who went 7.0 innings, allowing only five hits with six strikeouts.

Overall the Waves' offense came alive, as they had 14 hits to the Sooners (1-1) five. Along with Brown, second baseman Joe Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine Prep HS) and left fielder Tony Cooper(San Carlos, Calif./Canada College) had multi-RBI games, knocking in two runs apiece. Four Waves had two or more hits in the game, with eight Waves in total getting a hit in the game.

On the mound, Frazier's solid outing was followed by junior lefty Brian McIlhenny (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) who came in to get an out in the top of the eighth and was relieved by Mat Snider(Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos HS), making his collegiate debut. He threw a successful 1.2 innings, preserving the shutout while adding one strikeout.

The Waves saw a lot of pitches in the early innings as they threatened with runners on second and third in the first inning with one out and in the second inning runners in scoring position with two outs. The Waves got to Sooner starter Jon Gray in the third inning, putting their first run on the board as Brown singled to left field to score Sever. Gray's day was over after 78 pitches in 2.2 innings, one earned run.

In the fourth inning, the Waves scored three as Matt Gelalich (La Verne, Calif./Bonita HS) got things started with a single. Zach Vincej (Saugus, Calif./Saugus HS) drew a walk and the Waves had two on with one out. Cooper collected two RBI with his single. He would then advance to second as Sooner pitcher Taylor was called for a balk. That allowed Matt Forgatch(San Marino, Calif./Denison University) to drive in Cooper with a single to second base.

In the sixth the Waves again would put up three, this time with two coming against righty reliever Jacob Rhame and one against the lefty Jake Fisher. Brown would again deliver the blow, as he drove in Forgatch on a double down the right field line. Fisher would come in in relief of Rhame and Grandpre would get the single to drive in Brown.

The Waves would put up one in seventh against righthander Kindle Ladd, with Brown delivering the blow with his third hit of the day, driving in Vincej with two outs. Finally in the bottom of the eighth the Waves capped off the scoring with a two-out double by Sever to score Gelalich and Vincej.

The Waves and Sooners will be back out for the early rubber match on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. PT at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
