Cross Country Teams Run at Bronco Invitational on Saturday
Oct. 18, 2013
MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine cross country teams will be in action on Saturday at Santa Clara's Bronco Invitational. It's the final meet for the regulars and their last chance to make the squad that will compete at the West Coast Conference Championships.
"This is our selection meet for the championship season," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "We'll select our top nine after this meet. We've got a strong contingent of 16 women vying for one of those nine spots. We've got a great group and we've built some nice depth."
The men's 8K invitational will be at 9 a.m., followed by the women's 6K invitational at 9:45 a.m., at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif.
Next week, some members of the Waves will run at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Invitational (Friday, Oct. 25). The others will get rested and ready for the WCC Championships, which Pepperdine will host for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 2., in Alumni Park.
"We've got some typical little things for this time of year but we've had three weeks to recover since running at Stanford," Radnoti said. "Santa Clara has a flat, fast course and I think we'll set a lot of personal records."
In the last outing on Sept. 28, the Waves' top runners at the Stanford Invitational were sophomore Katie Engel (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima HS) on the women's side and freshman Gordie Thomas (Fallbrook, Calif./Great Oak HS) for the men.
