FULLERTON, Calif. - Pepperdine's final decisions on who will run at the upcoming West Coast Conference Championships were made on Friday night as some members of the cross country teams took part in Cal State Fullerton's Titan Invitational.
Coach Robert Radnoti rested his top six women's runners in advance of next Saturday's (Nov. 2) WCC Championships, which Pepperdine will host for the first time in Alumni Park.
He sent 13 runners to Fullerton to compete for the final three spots in the WCC lineup, and the team's top three finishers were freshmen Lindsay Sheaffer (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) and Sydney Gray (Bellingham, Wash./Meridian HS) and sophomore Rachel Rant (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS). They placed 26th, 31st and 32nd overall.
"The women ran well," Radnoti said. "Lindsay and Rachel both ran really well. They both broke 19 minutes and it's probably the first time they've done that. It was almost a perfect day. Sometimes it's very hot here, but there were cool conditions and that led to some fast times, so I'm pleased with how the team ran."
Radnoti also credited the performance of senior Sarah Attar (Escondido, Calif./Escondido HS), who placed fifth on the team and 45th overall.
"Sarah set a personal record by about 30 seconds, and as a senior, I'm really happy for her because this was probably he last collegiate cross country race," he said.
Just two men ran at the Titan Invitational as that team's top runners also rested in preparation for the WCC Championships. They will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and it will be televised digitally on TheW.tv.
