Men's Cross Country Has WCC Tune-Up at Fullerton
Oct. 21, 2011
Jonathan Rahaeuser was the first Wave to the finish line at the Titan Invitational on Friday evening.
Just six days after the Bronco Invitational and with the WCC Championships coming up on October 29, the Waves largely ran as a pack, as the top three Waves finished within eight seconds of each other.
"The guys did a good job," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "They ran nice and relaxed, controlled and comfortable knowing the conference championship is next Saturday. They're excited for that and everybody's feeling good."
Rahaeuser (Irvine, Calif./Calvary Chapel HS) led the Waves for the first time this season with his 90th-place result overall. He was the #3 runner at UC Irvine and Stanford before improving to #2 at Santa Clara.
With a time of 27:24.1, Rahaeuser came in eight seconds ahead of senior Kenny Smith (Willits, Calif./Willits HS) and sophomore Jesse Aston (Martinez, Calif./Alhambra HS). Smith was the Waves' top finisher at the first four meets of the season.
The men finished in eighth place overall.
Pepperdine's women's team rested in advance of the WCC Championships, which will be held at the Crystal Springs course in Belmont, Calif., next weekend.
