FULLERTON, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's and women's cross country teams took it easy at the Titan Invitational on Friday evening, using the race as another part of their buildup to next weekend's West Coast Conference Championships.

Head coach Robert Radnoti called it a "tempo run" for the Waves that will be competing next Saturday (Oct. 27) in Portland, though he was also pleased with the efforts of his non-WCC runners.

"I was proud of our newcomers, who all ran and set PRs," Radnoti said. "Our men just ran the race as a workout. The focus is on getting everyone ready for peak performances next week in Portland."

The Waves had 12 competitors in the women's race, though their top two runners sat out in order to rest up for the WCC meet. Freshman Stasia Demick (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy) was first to the finish line for Pepperdine with a time of 21:14.1 in the 5K. Other scorers included freshman Rachel Rant (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS), senior Kasey Ullery (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS/Moorpark College), freshman Brynn Henderson (Franktown, Colo./Valor Christian HS) and freshman Hanna Kristensen (Gresham, Ore./Gresham HS).

Three of Pepperdine's four men ran as a group, with freshman Jordan Scandlyn (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton HS) leading the Waves to the finish line for the first time this season with a time of 28:11.9 in the 8K. A second later, senior Jonathan Rahaeuser (Irvine, Calif./Calvary Chapel HS) and junior Jesse Aston (Martinez, Calif./Alhambra HS) followed.
