Cross Country Runs Well at Northridge Invitational
Oct. 13, 2012
Hayley Lytle had an excellent sixth-place finish in the women's 5K of the Northridge Collegiate Invitational on Saturday morning.
Lytle (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) ran for the Waves as a freshman but concentrated on academics the past two years. Her season debut came in a time of 18:29.22, more than three minutes than the best time that she recorded as a freshman.
On the men's side, senior Jonathan Rahaeuser (Irvine, Calif./Calvary Chapel HS) led the Waves to the finish line for the fourth time in four races, as he placed 25th in the men's 8K in a time of 26:57.33.
Following Raheuser to the finish line were freshman Jordan Scandlyn (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton HS), junior Jesse Aston (Martinez, Calif./Alhambra HS), senior Sean King (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill HS) and freshman Chris Hostetler (El Cajon, Calif./Steele Canyon Charter HS).
Freshman Katie Engel (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima HS) had led the Waves at the previous three meets but this time she finished second on the team and 12th overall in 18:43.79. Lytle and Engel were followed by freshman Rachel Rant (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS), junior Sarah Attar (Escondido, Calif./Escondido HS) and freshman Hannah Turpin (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon HS).
"This was a good meet for the team," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "Hayley made her 2012 debut in style. It was good to get one meet under her belt before WCCs in two weeks. Katie also finished strong despite not feeling all that well. All in all it was a good meet to prep for WCCs. The season is flying by and everyone is getting faster."
This was the final tuneup for the Waves' top runners before the West Coast Conference Championships, which will be held on Oct. 27 in Portland, Ore. A limited group of Waves will take part in the Titan Invitational this Friday (Oct. 19).
