Waves Host Pepperdine Invitational
Sept. 14, 2013
The improving women's squad came in fourth place, while the young men's team placed sixth.
"We were really excited about this," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "This is something we've been looking forward to since I got here. We love to host meets at Pepperdine. We like to have our students, faculty and administration come down and watch. Our team was really excited about it. It was just a beautiful day and sets us up really nicely for November 2nd when we host the championships here."
Six of the seven women's teams that competed were from the West Coast Conference, as well as five of the six men's teams. Pepperdine will be hosting the WCC Championships for the first time in school history on this course later this fall. Rival Loyola Marymount took first place in both races today.
For the women, senior Adrianna Davies (Coronado, Calif./Coronado HS) led the Waves to the finish line. She took eighth place overall in the 6K with a time of 21:59.97. Freshman Elle Lemco (San Jose, Calif./Prospect HS) also had a strong result, coming in 14th place in 22:14.41. Also scoring for the Waves were sophomore Katie Engel (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima HS), junior Lisa Santroch (Shoreline, Wash./Shoreline HS) and freshman Monica McGinty (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS).
For the men, freshman Ben Fox (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain HS) led the way in the 8K as he finished 23rd with a time of 26:02.99.
"On the women's side we ran pretty well," Radnoti said. "We had two of our top athletes not running today. We're going to be a lot stronger with them. On the men's side we're still very young and learning and improving with each race. It's exciting that our teams are getting better and better."
This was the first large-scale meet held on Pepperdine's campus since 2007. The Waves are next in action at the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 28.
