PEPPERDINE XC 2012: Competed at five meets as a freshman ... Finished #2 for the Waves at the Stanford Invitational ... Best 5k was 19:56.48 at the Northridge Collegiate Invitational and best 6k was 24:18.20 at the WCC Championships (where she was #5 for Pepperdine). PEPPERDINE TRACK 2013: Only ran at the first track meet of the season as a freshman ... Posted the Waves' season-best time in the 400-meter hurdles with a 68.29 at Westmont (2/16) ... That put her #3 on Pepperdine's all-time top five list in the event ... Also ran the 100-meter hurdles in 18.17. HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Lebanon (Ohio) High School in 2012 ... Ran four years of cross country and track (400 and 800 meters, 100- and 300-meter hurdles) ... Was the Greater Western Ohio Conference Athlete of the Year as a senior ... Earned All-GWOC honors in both sports all four years ... Was an OAT&CCC All-Ohio track athlete as a junior and senior ... Earned Academic All-Ohio honors ... Was part of Lebanon High school record teams in the 1,600 relay and 3,200 relay ... Also lettered in basketball ... Was a National Merit Commended Scholar and salutatorian of her class. PERSONAL: Born in Jacksonville, Fla. ... Daughter of Doug and Laura Turpin ... Has one brother, Mitchell ... Majoring in international studies ... Has helped train theraphy dogs through 4-H and is a three-time Ohio state champion in 4-H dog projects ... Chose Pepperdine because "it was the best fit for me academically and athletically. The University's mission fits perfectly with my goals. On my visits I was able to see not only what a beautiful campus Pepperdine has, but also what a wonderful community it has. Coach Radnoti, the current runners and fellow recruits all had an influence on my decision to study and run there." FAVORITES: Lists her sports hero as fellow Ohio native Jesse Owens ... Favorites include Lolo Jones (athlete), Indianapolis Colts (pro sports team), The Giver (book), 27 Dresses (movie), New Girl (TV show), Switchfoot (musical artist), macaroni and cheese (food) and football (sport other than running) ... Enjoys running because "it is a lifelong habit and it provides for instant connection between strangers. The feeling to escaping worries and problems on a run is great and so is the ability of running to translate across borders, cultures and languages." |
