Track Teams Head to SF State Distance Carnival
April 5, 2012
MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine's track teams head north to the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday looking to add to its list of seven school records that have been broken this season.
"We're really excited about this meet," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "We have four events where there's a good chance to break the school record. That's been one of our focuses this year."
The day-long competition at Cox Stadium includes approximately 665 competitors from more than 50 colleges and universities.
Radnoti thought that the best chances to set school records on Friday would be by senior Aneasha Lawrence (Simi Valley, Calif./Village Christian HS) in the women's 800 meters, senior Lauren Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) in the women's 5,000 meters, senior Paige Mobley (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) in the women's two-mile and junior Jonathan Rahaeuser (Irvine, Calif./Calvary Chapel HS) in the men's 1,500 meters.
"Aneasha is less than a second away from the school record in the 800 so I think she'll get it," Radnoti said. "Jonathan is also very close in the 1,500. The two-mile is a rarely contested event and a record that's stood there for a while, so Paige has a good chance at it. The 5,000 is Lauren's specialty and I expect her to go faster than she has before."
The full team will compete at this meet after all but one runner took last weekend off.
